Don’t we all love Superheroes?!  From DC Comics to Marvel Comics, we all love Superman, Batman, Flash, Thor, Captain America, Wonder Woman, and the list goes on and on.  We root for them, hope for them, and we want to see them save the world.  We want to be like them, but we cannot because we don’t have their superpowers.  But what if we could be everyday heroes with the abilities we already have?

Donald Miller writes in his book, “Hero on a Mission”, that there are 4 roles that every great story has: victim, villain, hero, and guide.  All the great stories from Star Wars to Lord of the Rings to Harry Potter have these 4 roles.  We are also given a choice to play one of these 4 roles in our own lives. You will play one of these 4 roles, but you get to decide which one.  It can sometimes feel like we are stuck playing a role that was given to us.  But we always have the power to choose the role we want to play.

We all start out as victims.  We are helpless children who need protection from our parents or caregivers.  Eventually, we are given a choice to grow out of that role to become either a hero or a villain.  If you choose to become a hero, you can eventually become a guide and help others become a hero.  Victims feel helpless, anxious, and afraid.  Villains make excuses, are hopeless, and blame others for their situation.  Heroes are aware of their shortcomings, overcome obstacles, contribute to the great good, and empower others.

The clients we serve at CFS often come to us as victims of someone else, themselves, or a system.  Our goal is to move them from victim to hero.  Eventually, we want them to become a guide.  For example, couples come to us for marriage counseling because they are in distress.  They are victims of their own failings, trauma, bad history, or bad examples.  We want them to know that they are in control, not fate.  We give them the skills to be married well and to move on to help others.  We want them to become marriage ambassadors to others.

Superheroes can do it on their own, but we cannot.  Neither can our clients do it on their own.  We all need help.  CFS exists because of the generosity of our Guides who help us and our clients become heroes.

Would you be willing to become a Guide for us and help us financially?  We cannot help without you.  Many of our services are at no or very low cost to our clients.  You can be a Hero/Guide and help them get the help they need.
